Author Ron Powers joined the show to talk about his latest work, No One Cares About Crazy People. He is a New York Times best-selling author and a Pulitzer Prize winner. He is the first television critic to receive a Pulitzer Prize. 

Edward Pratt

Edward Pratt is a columnist for the Advocate. He joined the show to discuss an article he wrote involving a police officer in Walker. The officer brought a noose to work as joke with a cookie attached to the noose. Pratt discusses his take on the incident and the symbolism behind the noose and cookie.

Scott Wilfong and Dayne Sherman

 

Scott Wilfong and Dayne Sherman return to discuss Trump's healthcare bill and the lack of votes that caused the bill to not be passed. Wilfong was in-studio to represent the Republican Party and Dayne Sherman called-in to represent the Democratic Party.

He spent 24 years with the New York Times before leaving his position to come to Baton Rouge. Apcar joined Jim in studio to talk about Donald Trump and fake news.

The Bayou State could lose $3.6 billion in homes, businesses, and infrastructure over the next 50 years if Louisiana does not take action to stop the massive coastal land loss problem. That’s according to a study by the LSU Economics and Policy Research Group. Researcher Stephen Barnes says they studied the direct impact of land loss in different areas of the state.

Rep. Steve Carter

Republican State Representative Steve Carter joins the show to talk about budget funding. Carter explains the desperate need to spend money on roads for easier transportation and commerce.

Elbert Guillory

Former state lawmaker Elbert Guillory has been chosen by the Louisiana Republican Party to lead an outreach effort to bring more minorities to the GOP. Guillory became the first black Republican state senator in 2013 when he switched from the Democratic Party. He says his hope is to convince African-American voters the Republican Party has their interest in mind.

Herb Alpert

Herb Alpert is a musician from Los Angeles; he is mostly known for being with the group, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. Alpert has five number one albums, nine Grammys and 14 platinum albums. Herb Alpert will be present at the New Orleans Jazz Fest this year.

Kayla Cagan

Author Kayla Cagan discussed her book Piper Perish on the show, about a high school senior looking to move from Texas to New York for art school. The author herself is also from Texas, Houston to be exact, and lived in New York for 12 years. 

Hour Two

E Eric Guirard and Michelle Smith 

E. Eric Guirard and his ex-girlfriend Michelle Smith, talk about their relationship and why it ended after Guirard voted for Donald Trump. Guirard wrote a song about the situation called, Dumped Because of Trump; Smith can actually be seen featured in the video. 

Leslie Todd

Psychotherapist Leslie Todd joined the discussion with E. Eric Guirard and his girlfriend Michelle Smith about the relationship ending over political views. She gives her opinion on if it is important for couples to have religious or political views be in sync.  

Lesley Fair

 

Lesley Fair is a Senior Attorney with the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection. She called in to The Jim Engster Show to talk about identity theft and what the public can do to better protect themselves and spot identity theft.

President of the Louisiana Family Forum joins the show to talk about the effects a lack of a nuclear family has on crimes.  Mills feels that the reasoning behind many crimes is the lack or hate for fathers, and he addresses what can help these situations. Mills also talks about the programs he and the Gov. have been working on to help prison reform.

Jeff Marx

Jeffrey Marx is an author and organ donor advocate.  Marx joins the show to talk about Jarrius "Little JJ" Robertson's need for a liver transplant.  Marx and Little JJ will be at Walk Ons on Burbank at 6pm to give out Little JJ Robertson's 'cards for a cause.' This event is free.

Suzie Terrell

The first and only Republican woman elected to statewide office in Louisiana. Terrell joins the show to talk about Donald Trump and his tax returns.  She feels that it has never been required, though some previously have released similar documents.

John Wirt

John Wirt joins the show to talk about Chuck Berry.  One of the founding fathers of rock 'n roll, Berry passed away at 90 years old on March 18th. Wirt talks about Berry's run with the law and listens to Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven."

His books are mainly centered around pop culture icons including, Walt Disney, Carey Grant, Jack Nicholson and the list goes on. On today's show he talked about his newly released book, Charles Heston: Hollywoods Last Icon.

Melinda Deslatte

Melinda Deslatte joined the Associated Press in 1999 and 2000 transferred from Raleigh, NC to Baton Rouge. Deslatte discussed the annual  Statewide Capitol Correspondents Gridiron Show where Louisiana politicians are spoofed in performances. The Gridiron Show in BR is the longest running in the country. 

Caitriona Lally

Caitriona Lally is an Irish author and discussed her debut book Eggshells on the show. Lally studied English Literature at Trinity College. Before writing her first book book she worked in the past as a copywriter and as a teacher in Japan. She currently lives in Dublin, Ireland.

Political analyst Trey Ourso stopped by in studio to discuss Donald Trump's first 8 weeks as president. He graduated from Louisiana State University and is a Partner at Ourso Beychok, Inc.
