7/13 Monday: How to Succeed in Business and Politics Without Really Lying, Gubernatorial Candidate Scott Angelle, Lieutenant General Russel Honore' and the BP Agreement, and the Miss USA Pageant

HOUR ONE: 

Christopher Cerf

Christopher Cerf is an Author and President of the educational media production company, Sirius Thinking, LTd., on which he created his award-winning children's show, Between the Lions on PBS.  He shares his latest book with Jim today entitled, How to Succeed in Business and Politics and Everything Else Without Really Lying with Spinglish: The Definitive Dictionary of Deliberately Deceptive Language.    He shares examples from his book, including "collateral damage = bombed citizens." 

Scott Angelle

Scott Angelle is the Louisiana Public Service Commissioner and a Gubernatorial Candidate for the Fall election.  He discusses why he is running for governor, why you should vote for him, and what he will do for Louisiana.  "I believe the state is starving for bipartisan leadership... We don't need a governor that knows everything," Angelle says, "We need a governor that works with everyone."  

HOUR TWO: 

Russel Honore'

Lieutenant General Russel Honore' rails against the recent BP settlement.  Honore' says that the lawyers of the BP agreement worked a better deal for themselves than the people affected.  "EXXON and Shell are basically bullies," he says, "Our legislators let them get away with this because of donations to the offices."

Michelle McCalope is an award-winning journalist and emerging author.  She is currently a journalist at WAFB.  McCalope gives her impressions on the Miss USA Pageant this past weekend.  

Thursday 7/9: Louisiana Music Hall of Fame Art Wall at BTR, Gubernatorial Q&A on Film Tax Credits, Confederate Flag, Bill Cosby, and Bobby Jindal

HOUR ONE: 

Mike Shephard

Mike Shephard is the President of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.  He shares the new Art Wall at the BTR Airport for the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.  

The legislature just passed a bill to remove the Confederate Battle Flag from the South Carolina capitol.  Jim discusses this controversial issue.  

Gubernatorial Q&A

Do you agree with what the legislature did in the last session capping the state's film tax credits at $180 million dollars? As Governor, what changes, if any, would you propose to make to the program? 

David Vitter: 

Jay Dardenne: Dardenne says that though the film tax credits were too generous, they have now been capped too low and should exceed 200 million. 

Scott Angelle: As governor, I'll see to it that each and every tax credit, exemption etc. is evaluated to a cost/benefit comparison. 

John Bel Edwards: The motion picture industry must be capped... in the range of 180 million dollars each year. 

HOUR TWO:

Gloria Allred

Gloria Allred is a discrimination attorney who is nationally recognized for taking on high profile cases.  She shares her expertise on the recent evidence against Bill Cosby in which he drugged women with whom he planned to have sexual relations.  "Some of the women blame themselves," she says.  She is representing 16 women who claim Bill Cosby sexually abused them using Quaaludes to have sex with them.

Taylor Huckaby

Taylor Huckaby is a guest commentator for The Advocate and only openly gay staffer for Bobby Jindal.  Huckaby discusses his article that was published yesterday in The Advocate "Once a Jindal Supporter but No More..."

HELEN THORPE

Helen Thorpe is an author and freelance journalist.  She shares her book Soldier Girls: The Battles of Three Women at Home and at War.  Thorpe shares her research strategy behind choosing the particular three women and how their stories resonated with her.  

GUBERNATORIAL Q&A

The Gubernatorial Candidates give their stance on the Confederate Flag.  

David Vitter: As far as I know, the Confederate Battle Flag doesn't fly in Louisiana State offices, and it shouldn't. 

Jay Dardenne: Though it is correct that the Confederate Battle Flag should not fly over state buildings, but we should not try to rewrite history. 

Scott Angelle: Certainly, the Confederate Battle Flag should not fly over state buildings.  

John Bel Edwards: I think we owe it to the people of Louisiana to discuss whether we ought to issue license plates with the Confederate Battle Flag on them.

Patricia Gunter

Patricia Gunter is a Justice of the Peace in Grant Parish.  Rather than perform same sex marriages, Gunter has resigned.  She shares her views and hopes that she may be able to step down quietly since she feels it would be sinful to perform duties as a justice she does not believe in.


Thursday: Gubernatorial Candidates Q&A on Agriculture, former Saints and Panthers Quarterback Jake Delhomme, Bobby Jindal, and the Impacts of the Legislative Session

HOUR ONE: 

Carey Martin

Carey Martin is the Director of Public Relations at the Louisiana Farm Bureau.  "Louisiana farmers have had a really great run for the past few years... great commodity prices, great weather, great crop yields."  Martin joins Jim as he hosts the 93rd Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting at the Marriott in New Orleans.  Tomorrow, Jim will moderate an exchange between the Farm Bureau and each of the four Gubernatorial candidates.  

Les Duhe'

Les Duhe' is a noted political consultant.  He gives his opinion on each of the four gubernatorial candidates.  "We put a very high premium on being entertained, and the worst thing you can be as a politician is boring," Duhe' says.  

Governor Q&A

Gubernatorial candidates John Bel Edwards, Jay Dardenne, and Scott Angelle deliver their opinions on the following question: 

"What are your observations of the SAVE fund, which was approved by the legislature, and if elected Governor, are you inclined to preserve it or rescind it?
Jay Dardenne says YES we need to keep funding at at least current levels. 
John Bel Edwards says I absolutely commit to maintain funding for the LSU Ag Center and the Southern University Ag Center.
Scott Angelle says, "When farmers thrive, we all thrive... I will give my 100% support... at current levels or higher."

Stephanie Grace

Stephanie Grace is a political columnist at The Advocate.  She calls David Vitter "the man to beat."  She gives her analysis of each of the four gubernatorial candidates, their campaign strategies, and the likely outcomes as the election unfolds.  She also analyzes Governor Jindal's presidential announcement. 

Jake Delhomme

Jack Delhomme is a former NFL quarterback.  He played in college football at ULL, then went onto the Saints before he played in the European NFL.  He returned in 1999 to play for the Saints before he moved onto the Panthers as starting quarterback.  He is being inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.  



Thursday: Treatment of Higher Education under Governor Jindal, Candidate for Secretary of State Chris Tyson, and the Gubernatorial Candidates' Comments on Common Core

HOUR ONE:

Chris Tyson a law professor at LSU.  He is running for Secretary of State against current Secretary of State Tom Schedler.  He lays out why he is running for this position and how he plans to serve Louisiana.
